Texas Holdem Poker Basics

Texas Holdem Poker Basics

One of the most appreciated and played online casino games of all times is Texas Holdem Poker. Each year millions of people chose this way of entertainment to win money, have fun or just simply show that they are better than other players.

Probably this is one of the reasons why beginners decide to start their carrier with this game, but as interesting and fun as it may be, played with experienced players it can prove to be a challenge. The basic difference between a novice and a truly great player is that while a beginner thinks the most important thing in Texas Holdem is the starting hand, the experienced player realizes that the community cards are the ones that actually win the round.

Texas Holdem Poker is a game for practical people, who like to use their mind while playing, this being true for all poker games. Whenever you play in an Online Casino or Poker Room, you should analyze the current situation, decide whether you have any chance of winning and rise your bet or give up according to it. There is a chance to do this in the betting rounds. If you are not sure of your winning odds, do not be afraid to give up a round at anytime. It is better to fold in the beginning than to risk loosing a large amount of money in the end

The rules of Texas Holdem are very simple. After the players place required antes, they receive two down cards which remain hidden from their adversaries until the end of the round. Inexperienced gamblers may think that if these cards are bad, they do not have any chance of winning, so they chose not to continue the round. This could be a mistake, because although bigger cards like aces, kings, queens or even jacks may present a higher chance of wining, it is advised to wait at least until the flop. After the two cards have been dealt to the players, a betting round begins, in which everyone decides on how much money they are willing to risk. This is followed by the flop, in which three community cards are turned over at the same time. Next comes another betting round in which you can reevaluate your strategy. After this a fourth community card is exposed, called the turn card, followed by another betting round. This is usually the time when the players who are not sure of their chance of winning decide to fold. At the end a fifth community card is dealt, the river card, and a last round of betting begins. After all betting is completed comes the showdown, when all the cards are flipped and the winner is named.
The objective of the game is to make up the best possible five-card combination, using one or both of your cards and the community cards. Since the Texas Holdem is a “flop game” jokers are not used, because of this there is no such thing as Five of a Kind. The best possible hand in this game is the Straight Flush, consisting of five consecutive cards of the same suit. A special kind of Straight Flush is the Royal Flush, which includes an Ace, a King, a Queen, a Jack and a Ten, all of the same suit of course. This beats everything. Next comes Four of a Kind, formed with four cards of the same rank, the higher the rank the better the hand. Followed by the Full House, which means three cards of the same rank combined with a pair of another rank. After this comes the Flush, consisting of five cards of the same suit. Straight means five sequential cards of different suits, while the Three of a Kind is formed from three cards of the same rank; Two Pair means that there are two cards of one rank and other two cards of another rank. The last possible combination is called One Pair and it consists of two cards of the same rank. The cards that are not used to build these combinations do not play any part in determining the outcome of the game, unless neither of the combinations is formed by any of the players, in which case the highest card determines the winner. There is also the possibility to play the board. This means that the player will build his hand using only the community cards, but he must declare his intentions of doing so before he discards his own two cards.

At the end of the round the actual value of a Texas Holdem hand is the best possible combination of cards on the table, regardless the player’s opinions. In order to win a pot you must show bot your cards.

Texas Holdem Poker is a simple game to learn but a difficult game to master, so before playing in an online poker room or casino against professional players make sure you know the basics and have the necessary experience.
