Stalking and shooting down the opponent (II). Or how Phil Hellmtuh settles in the mind of one by Pablo Glavine (MI chess)
Second part of article Paul Glavine Poker for Chess. Disfrutadlo
!
Yesterday I digress a bit on how to intimidate and unbalance the rival in chess. In poker, and especially in Texas Holdem, if we do that we have won half game.
A child and primitive way of getting imbalance is seen in the recent movie premiere in the U.S., Deal, where Burt Reynolds plays the role of Tommy Vinson, a retired poker player who returns to train young Alex Stillman (played by Bret Harrison). During the night prior to the key day of a tournament, Tommy and Alex receive continuous calls in the door of his room by people hired for that purpose by other players so that they can not get to sleep. So, the next day, Alex easily lose all your chips.
The World Series of Poker in 2003 marked a turning point in the history of this game. The triumph of an amateur, Chris Monemayker (seems that, yes, that’s his real name) with the resulting award of two and a half million dollars, made tens of thousands of people in the world are interested in poker. While in 2003 signed up 839 people in the main event in 2004 as hicieron2576!, And in 2005 … 5619!
Still remember the day in April 2004 when a friend passed me a DVD with the enigmatic phrase: “Look, this is going to interest you.” The DVD contains the coverage you do the ESPN of the tournament. Soon I was caught by the game.
Despite the stunning victory of Moneymaker, I drew attention to the development of the second day of the tournament. I met the well, perhaps the king of how to intimidate, Phil Hellmuth. What a character! No wonder that every year the ESPN place it at least a day at the televised table (in this small camaritas through which we can see the cards that each player brings). The man is pure entertainment. But Hellmuth is anything but stupid, and we can assume that everything is fiction and in the intimacy is not that way, but what anyone would say seeing the gaudy pink color of the sheets in the sleeping (2:17 minutes on YouTube http : / / www.youtube.com/watch?v=uElUSNv18MQ).
During the whole session of day two, Hellmuth and another player, Sam Grizzle, are intimidating each other. At first he wins Grizzle several hands but could not with his way of being Gamble, and begins to lose chips. Hellmuth enjoys with the situation, until Sam was eliminated.
But a hand on that day that made me think was:
One player, Tony D, upload with Jack (Jack) Ten-. Hellmuth paid with a pair of sevens .
- Flop: K J 4
Tony D, who incidentally has a face that kind of good kills, and Hellmuth goes untapped and took command of the hand by betting. Tony D is going ahead with his pair of Jacks (Jacks) decides to pay.
- TURN: J
Tony D despite having raised their hand, it passes. Hellmuth bet, Tony D climbs with his trio and the show begins. Hellmuth gets to walk, look, Remiro, sits Tony D and asked how many chips you have left. Tony D swallowing saliva, and it answers with shaky voice while pulling the hand with sheets of the player who has at his side. Hellmuth already know all you need to know. With a strong voice resube a considerable amount. Tony D do not think or ten seconds and foldea (discard) your hand.
Although this is 100% poker, I felt outraged. Totally identified with Tony D, I thought that evil had triumphed once again, and during my endless trips to tournaments for the first time meditating on how to play a hand of poker and not on how to play a game of chess.
In my point of view, analyzing the movements of Tony D is as follows:
Raising preflop with Jack-Ten: perfect, try to take the blinds with a hand not at all
bad.
Go to the flop: already here demonstrates fear to the King for two (Before the King that appears on the board and the other king that we face in his hand). While not entirely bad check, the normal when one goes up preflop is to make a bet then.
Open to bet Hellmuth pair of Jacks: normal, I felt bad at the time, nor now.
Go to the turn: also normal, why would you show strength?
Up to bet Hellmuth: here for me to Tony D commits a big mistake. What we win going up? If, how we believe we have the best hand, why would you miss the hand to Hellmuth? And if we do not have the best hand, why not pay the bet of the river, and Hellmuth check? For me here it Tony D has only paid, moving into the River and re-pay the bet Hellmuth.
Folder to the resubida of Hellmuth: discussion, but logical. Hellmuth has a reputation for conservative, and that if you bet a lot of leads.
In addition Tony D commits another major mistake when Hellmuth asks how many chips you have left, and it’s the same count. His voice clearly noted the fear he had. What we are advised is that the dealer will have the chips, bringing the rival will not get information from our tone of voice. (You can see your hand in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S40Avw7Omtg).
The issue is that Hellmuth achieving its goal. “Gutsy play,” he said of his stake in the broadcaster ESPN, which resulted in a way it would be a bit wild “With two balls!”. And that is how it should be playing poker.
Of course Hellmuth refers not only to this type of intimidation, everything in it is designed for this. Get to the main event of the WSOP one and a half hours late, in a big limo and follow up on all the television cameras. Of course, the king is away from the table and can make it what you want. In recent years it has already reached unsuspected limits. In the WSOP arrival was next to an army of girls, all dressed in military (from 6:59 minutes in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38iHdGsHios
