Dempsey became the second Briton to win an event at the WSOP this year, but his friends made sure that his success did not go unnoticed. During the eight-hour final table, on several occasions the organization called on the followers of James to come down the level of screaming and event . Even Mike Matusow, who was playing another event, complained about the scandal caused by Dempsey’s friends.

For the first time in history, three women were among the top thirteen players of the tournament . The final table included the presence of JJ Liu , who finished third, while Julie Farkas and Melissa Hayden finished the event in tenth and thirteenth, respectively.

Other players recognized they did cash were Tom McEvoy and Tom Schneider . The heads-up began with a good advantage over rival Steve Dempsey Chanthabouasy. Although Steve could never match the stack of James, the game dragged on for nearly three hours before the final hand.

Chanthabouasy was all-in before seeing the flop with A [pica] 7 [trebol] and Dempsey paid with A [diamante] 10 [pica]. The flop opened the possibility of a ladder to Chanthabousay 4 [pica] 5 [corazon] 6 [pica], but neither the Q [corazon] the turn or the 4 [diamante] the river completed the project and Dempsey won the tournament.
