PartyPoker.com is one of the more recognizable Poker gaming sites on the internet. The site contains something for both the novice and for the experienced poker player. For the novice there is a series of links that are solely for those new to the poker experience. There are new player tables with micro limits and special poker tournaments. There is also a ‘poker school’ for beginners which teach the fundamentals of various poker games and the various strategies the professionals use for successful play. PartyPoker.com has a ‘Bankroll builder’ which awards rookie players over $50,000 worth of free rolls each month.
For the experienced player there are Bad Beat Jackpot payouts. PartyPoker.com collects 50 cents from each hand raked on the Bad Beat Jackpot tables. With over 100 tables the jackpot grows very quickly, about $1,000 each hour. To win the jackpot a player must lose with a hand of Four of a Kind, 8s, or better. Each time a Bad Beat Jackpot is won, 70% of the funds are dispersed while 20% is used as seed money for the next pot. The final 10% is kept by PartyPoker.com as an administrative fee. Of the distributed funds, 50% goes to the loser of the hand (the Bad Beat), 25% goes to the winner, and the remaining 25% is divided up between the other players who took part in that hand.
PartyPoker.com allows gamers to play either by downloading the free software onto their computer or by playing through their browser (‘flash’ games). There is an interactive tutorial available that will play through a hand of poker at no cost. There even is an interactive ‘hand analyzer’ which will take the first two cards dealt and will evaluate whether or not the hand is worth playing through. Since only 30% of opening hands are worth playing, this gives a player an edge game play.
PartyPoker.com has 5 variations of poker available on the site: Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, 7 Card Stud, and 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo.
PartyPoker.com offers varying types of tournament play: Sit-and-Go single tables, Multi-tables, and Shootouts.
Sit & Go tournaments are available in a variety of types of games with some buy-ins starting at $6, which includes the fee. These tournaments will start as soon as the required number of players has bought into the tournament. All seats are on a first-come-first serve bases.
The Multi-table tournaments on PartyPoker.com have a buy-in in addition to an entry fee. The buy-in becomes part of the prize pool and the entry fee is kept by PartyPoker.com. Multi-table tournaments feature a large number of players all starting at the same time. As players are systematically eliminated from the tournament the tables are combined until there is only one table left. The final winner collects the combined buy-ins of all the tables.
Shootout tournaments can be either one, two, three or four rounds. The number of rounds depends on the number of players that enter. During the first three rounds the tables are not collapsed and players advance if they are one of the three remaining players at their table. All players that advance are paid a portion of the prize pool for that round and retain the chips that they have won. The fourth round is played out in standard multi-table format.
